Me

Well, my name is Ben Goodyear (if you didn’t know already!) and I enjoy designing and creating websites among other things.

Brief History

I was born and raised in the UK (United Kingdom) but since early 2004 I’ve been living, working, and studying in Finland. I currently live about 20mins from the capital of Finland, Helsinki.

Why Web Design?

I’ve always been interested in the design and aesthetics of things. For a long time I wanted to be an architect, but as with many other childhood dreams, that didn’t come true. Surfing the internet was a great way to fill my spare time, and it still is, although I don’t have that much spare time anymore! One day I decided that I would like to have a go a creating a website myself, so I did!

My first web site was built using a WYSIWYG editor and it was for a game shooting company. Looking back at it now the website was awful, but fortunately it’s no longer online! Since then I’ve switched to hand coding my websites. I wanted to learn what I was doing, and to do this hand coding was the way to go. I enjoy the challenge of turning a design on a piece of paper into a functioning website.

I’m always learning new things related to the web, and I know I always will be! But that’s a good thing. My main drive now is to design and build websites that are compliant with web standards, accessible, usable, semantically coded, and of course, look great!

Update

As much as I love designing websites it seem of late I don’t really get the chance to do it anymore. My work, and skills, are much more heavily focused on implementation rather than design. Understanding and usage of open source content management systems such as Drupal and Wordpress, mastering of JS, AJAX, (X)HTML and CSS is more what I seem to be about now.

That’s it

That was a little about me, I could go on but I don’t want to bore you with all the details! However, if you have any questions about something then feel free to get in touch with me.
