Insightful Encounters – Regional Development and Practice Based Learning, was the name of a conference which took place in Porvoo, Finland, between March 5th and 7th 2008. The objective of the conference was to deepen the participants understanding of regional development, learning and innovation activity from the viewpoint of practice-based theorizing.

To aid this new style of conference there was a need for a website which would serve as a place for people to extend their participation. This would be achieved by providing a discussion forum where participants could continue discussions which had started during the conference, a multi-voiced blog, and stories from different actors involved in realising the conference.

We met with Ben Goodyear with only a small amount of time left until our conference started. We had hopes of having a website, which would allow the different actors involved in the conference a way to share their experience of planning it through a multi-voiced blog, and short stories. We also hoped the website would serve as an extension to the conference itself, allowing people to continue to discuss and communicate with each other both during and after the conference. To achieve this we wanted to set up a discussion forum.

With this vague description of what we wanted, we needed a competent designer and web developer to help us realise our plan fully. Right from the beginning, Ben was very helpful in guiding us towards the best way to proceed with the project. His knowledge and skill in the field where apparent, his communication was thorough and concise which gave us great confidence in the success of the project. Soon after our first meeting, Ben gave us a design proposal, which was perfect. Within a week, Ben had delivered a completed website, which far exceeded our original hopes.
